Legacy, Lame-acy?

Anyone know how big sibling legacy is at Harvard?

I'm trying to get out of applying, it just isn't for me, but after having siblings attend, i'm being told its stupid to not try anyway. i'm a good student, but harvard isn't for me and its just another app to do..

I do not believe sibling legacy counts for much, if anything. But what do you care? If you have thought it over, and don't want to go to Harvard, don't waste your time applying.

I understand that Harvard's definition of legacy is limited to kids whose parents who went to the college. I think that's different from most other schools (e.g. Stanford, Georgetown) who include kids of parents from the graduate schools as well as the undergraduate.

Does anyone know why Harvard does that? It's a bummer because both my parents went to a Harvard graduate school.

FdIvySibling- if you're not interested in going, definitely don't bother applying just because people are pressuring you.

On the other hand, if you would be interested in going but don't think you can get in (which is very different), you probably should- the Harvard supplement to the common app is pretty easy to do.

By the way, is either of your siblings a sophomore? I'm curious whether I know them.

If you google this topic, apparently McGrath-lewis is quoted as saying they put a "feather on the scale" or something on those lines for siblings - it must be a pretty light feather, given the percent of non-legacy siblings who are denied :)

Siblings are not legacies at Harvard.
