legacy question

I'm applying early decision to Dartmouth. Both my father and grandfather attended Dartmouth, will this boost my chances? My grandfather gave a few speeches after he graduated.

i would say yes, but not amazingly. what ive heard from the reps ive talked to is that the legacy community has to be cared for because they form a sort of support network for the university, so the institution will help encourage that loyalty and passion by trying to get a family more closely tied to the university by accepting more people from the family. that said, theyre not going to accept you if youre going to weaken the university’s environment. think of it this way, dartmouth, like many other top schools (looking at you, ivy league), gets far more qualified applicants than it can admit, so if you are a qulalified applicant that can clearly do the work and succeed at dartmouth, being a legacy might pull your name to the front of the list, but it wont put you on the list if youre not qualified.
