<p>According to my mother (Columbia) and my father (Brown), Cs were not "acceptable" 30 years ago.</p>

<p>That's a wonderful ideal, but that's all it's going to be. There will never be equality in terms of educational opportunity - like I pointed out, colleges are, essentially, businesses - and legacy status will always be a factor in admissions decisions at elite colleges.</p>
<p>Also, if those stats that blink posted are proved with evidence, then ummm, that would make sense anyway, b/c if they can afford to give large donations to the school, i think they can afford to pay large sums of money to, ummm, private schools, tutors, and those cute people who are really good at writing essays ;). So of course their numbers will be up there, but nothing in those stats show anything about their character.</p>
