Anyone know how Union Admissions deals with a legacy applicant? Any information would be helpful.

i'm not sure how they deal with legacy applicants but i know A LOT of kids here have fathers, grandfathers, etc. who have gone here. (not so much mothers or females...until this year there has always been more males than females at union since they were a male only school until the 1970s)

Thanks. It was coed when I started in 1974. I can't find the "legacy" answer on their website anywhere.

Does anyone know the answer? Thanks

I don't have a specific answer, but it seems to me that legacy status would at the very least suggest to the school that the candidate is somewhat more likely than a non-legacy to attend if admitted. That can only help. A legacy's family has some extra familiarity and positive feelings about the school. As with any application situation, legacy status is not likely to take someone from being out-of-the-running to an automatic admit, but it could be enough to take a student from "maybe" to "yes."

However, be advised that some schools that give legacies extra consideration only do so IF the legacy applies Early Decision. In other words, they will only give the legacy bump to students who are already committed to attending if accepted. ("We will only love you back if you are willing to commit.")

Again, I have no specific info re Union's policy.

Union takes legacies very seriously. A lot of new students are legacies, partially because Union throws a LOT of money at legacies. Most of the full rides I've heard about at Union go to legacies, and most others get very good school scholarships. It also very highly helps with admission, more than at other schools.
