Are you considered a legacy at Wellesley if your grandmother attended the school? If so, does it make much of a difference for admission to the school?

yes and maybe...

legacy status is the sort of situation to which this clich

No idea on whether it helps. I knew lots of people who had Wellesley grandmas when I was a student. My roommate was a fifth generation Wellesley student who got in ED. No idea whether it got her in when she otherwise wouldn't.

^ I really can't see Wellesley rejecting someone with 5 generations of legacies, unless she had terrible stats. I know someone who was something like a 5th generation Yalie, so he obviously got in even though he got C's in high school.

I think grandma counts. It might not be as helpful as a mother or sister, but it will help.

^ Yeah, in this person's case it was pretty clear that she was on-par with other Wellesley students as an attendee. I know neither her stats or her Wellesley grades (with some exceptions), but she was a Physics major who pretty much took it all in stride.

Back in the day I read her some "what are my chances" threads out loud: everyone's stats impressed her. They did not all get in.
