Legal, Suspension, or Jail time

ow. that's kind of ironic.

Yea but the thing is they dont want to take it to the cops, but can a public school take actions against me legally?

It depends. If your school has an honor code, you have violated and they can "take action" against you.

If your situation spills over into the school setting (especially if the parent of the student complains loud enough about your actions) while the school may not do anything "to you" you will be tainted in the eyes of those who will have to write recommendations for you (yes people have personal biases).

noones gonna pay a lawyer $250/hr to complain about harrassing that you stopped doing.

I havent violated any honor code and boy as hell I hope the parents keep quiet.

well, since they won't take it to the cops, you don't really have anything to worry about. you probably won't be suspended for more than a few days, if that. just try not to worry about it and focus on your schoolwork, social life, etc.

someone "impersonated" (created an account that has my name) and sent a lot of awful messages to other users (like pro-nazi and other racist stuff)... Can the student get suspended and should I report it?

What you did is really immature... but there is no way you can get in trouble by the school board for that. I doubt you can even get in trouble from the law for that.

paulfoester, YES! He can get in serious trouble and you should report him. You don't want your name associated with racist crap.

I fully recognize its immature and its destroying me (guilty conscience) however I really had no idea of the full extent of the damage.

Also I did not do anything racist and to NSM I dont think necessarily
"they need to heal" trust me its not as bad as what was in that article.

Only 1 day!

I bet they're just trying to work you up and make you scared (it seems like it's working!). I'm sure they're not really going to do anything....besides, do they even have any proof?? Don't sweat it; although it was imature to do such a thing, "boys will be boys"....ok I sound like a retard saying that.

It is working if they are trying to do that. They have some proof, I admitted to it online foolishly.

Introuble111:

What you did was very wrong and I assume you comprehend that by now, right? I have no idea why you did this stupid prank and I hope you are properly punished for it. It seems to me that you are more worried about your potential punishment than anything else. Do you understand or have even given thought to what in blazes name went through your mind when you did this? Gosh.

You really need to obtain guidance. This prank you did was not cool. You need to find guidance in hopes of learning more about your reasoning behind this prank. Then, you need to (wo)man up and move the heck fire on in life.

And you need to know that it is mad simple to find out anyone's ISP. Dude, it is soo simple to do.

Please try to get help for yourself and move on with things nicely, dude. I wish you the best with your life and I would figure on your being able to move on from this later on down the line. You have a future ahead of you as long as you shapen up now.

Well i have stopped but i doubt i need guidance... there was reasoning.

who should I report it to?

Only a few hours left..... :( :( :( :(

paulfoester,
From what this NY Times story indicates, you need to report it to the police:
"In about half the cases, victim and perpetrator appear to be strangers. For the rest, it can be deeply, disturbingly personal.
Earlier this month, a Suffolk County police officer, Michael Valentine, was indicted on 197 counts of stalking, unauthorized use of a computer and other charges after hacking into the Yahoo e-mail account of a woman he had briefly dated and posing as her in online communications.

The Suffolk County District Attorney's office also charges that Mr. Valentine, of Lake Grove, accessed the woman's personal profile on the dating site Match.com, sending electronic "winks" and other communications to 70 different men on the site. At least two showed up at the woman's home for dates. "

Check this out, too: <a href="http://www.iht.com/articles/2006/04/17/business/stalk.php%5B/url%5D">http://www.iht.com/articles/2006/04/17/business/stalk.php</a></p>

Except stealing that woman's accounts, passwords, stalking her, actually endangering her life, and essentially terrorizing her is VASTLY different than making a similar account, and using it to sling racial slurs that don't really harm anyone.

Introuble, I think you're in the clear. What you did was wrong. But you're apologetic. And it wasn't on school grounds, so I don't think the school can take action against you. And it'd be ridiculous to have the police involved. With the exception of the reputation damage, I think it'll all clear over in due time.
