Lehigh Class of 2025 RD

We attended the housing session yesterday for Lehigh. They have eight first year Themed Housing Communities and one of them is CHOICE. CHOICE is a community for students committed to living a healthy, substance-free lifestyle in a fun and engaging environment.

Kids can chose to stay in themed housing. My daughter is opting for Choice. Please refer below link for more information:

Do you know if any of these session are recorded? With the time difference, it is often hard to be available for the live stream. I can only find upcoming events on their admitted students page.

My d is interested in STEM and CHOICE. They do mention that they honor the Themed Housing requests. In last 3 years they have met 100% request.

does a 36k per year tuition (not including any loans it is 26k with loands) seem worth it for a degree in Computer Science and Business at Lehigh?

coming from a family with a household income with over 110k income

Thatā€™s not really a question for strangers on the internet. ā€œWorth itā€ and ā€œaffordableā€ are not interchangeable. Itā€™s great that they offered you a bit more FA but now you really need to have the hard talk with your parents about what they can really afford to pay for. They should have an idea of what they can cover without it being a hardship. Having income at a certain level is only part of it and no one knows your specific circumstances. Some folks can swing $2,000/month+ in tuition payments because of savings, careful budgeting and reducing expenses, others simply can not. Have they set money aside to save for college? Can they pay the difference between your federal loan and your cost of attendance outright? Do they own your home and have equity to tap into? Or do they need some sort of parent loan (and if they do, do they have the credit score necessary to borrow the amount they need? And can they pay the interest on their loan while you are in school? And do they have the ability to qualify for an additional loan each year you are in school?) Is their plan sustainable for 4 years? Without knowing their specific situation, it is really hard to say. Please donā€™t answer all of those questions here. I just wrote them so you know what to talk to them about. Also, if you are thinking you will want to go to graduate school, you donā€™t want to take on too much debt for undergrad.

That being said, if they are willing and able to pay the bill, can still have a roof over their heads, heat in the winter and put food on the table (kidding but also not kidding) and you love it, you should attend. Itā€™s a great school!

Thank you so much for the reply.

Do you know if there is an application process for the themed housing? Iā€™m also curious to understand how many students get into their theme of choice.

Will have to wait and explore when we commit to Lehigh. She is almost set on Lehigh but want to commit after Tuesday. Have not seen anything to suggest that there is application process for themed housing.

Many people will make their commitments after Tuesday.

Does anyone know the status of Greek life at Lehigh? I read an article from Jan 2020 indicating that all fraternities and sororities were suspended due to hazing and drug issues. Did the greek organizations recruit new members this year? What does the future look like for those organizations? Also, is there a way to get a definitive percentage of students participating? I had read the Lehigh student population is 45% greek on some websites and at a presentation last week, the Lehigh representative said 20% greek. Iā€™m not sure how the percentages are calculated ā€“ do they include service fraternities? Do they calculate the percent at the start of the year before rush, or after the new members have pledged?

I believe Lehigh has a high percentage of students in Greek Life. I also heard all greek life was suspended, but I think it is way more than 20%.

Do we know the total applications this year at Lehigh and their acceptance rate?

Any idea what caused the 20% application drop for 2024 class? Did Lehigh go test optional for 2025 for the first time? If so, that could yield a 30% or higher app bump.

15% increase in application for class of 2025. Roughly 14,200 applications for this year with 58% acceptance from ED. Not sure about the total ED application.

No idea about 20% drop in application for class of 2024. I read some blog but answer is not convincing.

There was a 9% increase in ED2 apps this year but I didnā€™t see the change in ED1. Overall, 737, or 54%, of the entering class of 2024 came from ED. Thatā€™s a very strong amount of first choice decisions.

The university adopted a standardized test-optional policy for the 2020-2021 application season and 40% didnā€™t submit a test score.

The 2024 decline in applicants came as a surprise, and Lehigh admissions employees were shocked, said Bruce Bunnick, director of admissions.

Are you considering Lehigh? Do you have further stats for this year? My d was not given any merit scholarship and I had to pay 300 K for 4 years. She is not into Greek Life and given the distance we are preferring Lehigh.

If you look into Google Earth, you can see many Greek life buildings among the woods in the south part of campus, many of them.

Yes, I think it would be worth it as the average starting salary for Lehigh grads is among the top. Plus, think about the fact that you are getting a $72,000 education for $36k.

The other thing to consider is whether this school fits your personality and desires but I think it is a great price. ( from a mom who will probably need to pay full price)

Weā€™re considering Lehigh for our S22. A CEO friend from NJ then Ohio to TX sent a kid or two to Lehigh and swears by it and I see that itā€™s quite strong in both engineering and business.
