Lehigh vs Carnegie Mellon

So I applied to Lehigh and love it, and got into the IBE program.
I also applied to Carnegie Mellon and got in, but I know nothing about the school.
I don't think I want to go to Carnegie Mellon, but from what I understand it's an amazing school, albeit very ugly.

Is Carnegie Mellon much better than Lehigh, speaking strictly on status? I don't care for which one is nicer/better social life right now, just how good the schools are considered in the working world.

Will someone an employer see Carnegie Mellon and automatically think that person more qualified than someone from Lehigh, or is it about the same?

You really need to visit CM if you want to make a fair comparison.

Will someone an employer see Carnegie Mellon and automatically think that person more qualified than someone from Lehigh, or is it about the same? If they do - that is someone I wouldn’t be interested in working for. It’s about the work you do, not where you went to school.

Yes carnegie mellon has a much better reputation…I’m in the same boat as you and when I tell someone I got accepted to CM they’re like “ohhhh good”. When I say I got accepted to Lehigh they’re like “what’s that?”…also someone from my school got rejected from cm last year but accepted at cornell.

as for the i.b.e. program making up for it…idk i got accepted to i.d.e.a.s. and i’m having the same trouble.

Carnegie Mellon has more of a national reputation, but you should visit first. Reputation doesn’t mean much if you aren’t going to be happy where you study.

I live in Pittsburgh and I know that around here, people think getting into Lehigh is better than getting into CMU, or at least they are pretty much equal. Maybe it’s because I know more people who go to CMU and I don’t really know anyone who is going to Lehigh, except myself. But CMU really is not a nice campus. It is mixed in with the Pitt campus, and it’s really hard to tell where one campus ends and the other begins. It’s in one of the most congested parts of town. There is always too much traffic and it’s really had to get around down there. You should definitely visit because even if you think CMU is a better school, you’ll probably not like the campus. O ya, and the weather here sucks, it rains alll the time!

Lehigh’s reputation depends on which area of the country you’re in. In the Northeast, Lehigh has a fantastic reputation; it’s a first choice school for many top students in the NJ/NY/PA/CT/MD areas. But if you were to go to, say, Michigan, people might say, “Lehigh? Where’s that?”

But you’d get the same reaction to top liberal arts schools such as Amherst, Williams, and Haverford.

Both are great institutions. srs makes an [excellent point](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/members/srs-241061.html) about the differences in the campuses.
