I apologize for this question, as I'm sure it's been asked time and time again. But, is exceeding the word length limit on the commonapp essay unwise? Moreover, should I shorten an essay of 524 words to meet the 250 - 500 word requirement?

Mine's 550, I'm wondering similar things...

Mine's 970, 980? Yeeeeeeeah. Need to work on that.

524 is definitely fine and i think 550 is probably fine. 970/980 is... a lot.

best thing to do is call up each ind. school and ask them. for example, i called amherst and told them my essay was about 625ish and they said it was fine.

i'd say anything above 700 is a bit much, but again, just call and ask. they won't bite your head off. :)

I would like to read it^^

I wrote a really long essay(950) words and still got in. But its better to cut down your words and play safe

Pssshhh mine is about 600. Everyone I've asked has said it's fine, as long as all those words are in there for a reason.

mine was close to 800. i managed to cut it down to about 650 though... hoping that's fine, haha...

524 is totally fine... my friend got into yale ED and she wrote a 800 word essay about her dad
