I am going to be a freshman this fall and thinking about getting Lenovo Thinkpad T430.

I know it's a bit over what I would need for college work, but I'm looking for durable, sturdy laptops like Thinkpads. (planning to keep it for grad school also)

The spec I'm thinking to get: (copied them from the website)
- Intel Core i5-3210M Processor (3M Cache, up to 3.10 GHz)
- Genuine Windows 7 Professional (64 bit)
- 4 GB PC3-12800 DDR3 (1 DIMM)
- 320GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
- 14.0" HD (1366 x 768) LED Backlit AntiGlare Display, Mobile Broadband Ready (not upgrading it, eventhough I've heard that its bad and reviews i read are recommending to upgrade to 1600 x 900)
- Intel HD Graphics 4000

Right at this moment (because the price on the website change all the time), it will cost me $889 which is still in my budget (Im not looking for anything close to $1000)

Do people have general comments on this laptop?

Or just how Lenovo in general? How their customer service and what nots... And I'm kinda anxious ordering it online... Maybe people have experience about this too??

Thanks A LOT!!!!!

@flamethrower, I think you are slightly overpaying for your Lenovo.
Thru our Universities’ computer purchase program, I came up with the following:

T430 Lenovo
• Intel Core i5-3320M Processor (3M Cache, up to 3.30 GHz)
• Genuine Windows 7 Professional (64 bit)
• 14.0" HD (1366 x 768) LED Backlit AntiGlare Display, Mobile Broadband Ready
• Intel HD Graphics 4000 with Intel Core i5-3320M Processor
• 4 GB PC3-12800 DDR3 (1 DIMM)
• UltraNav multi-touch touchpad & TrackPoint
• 320GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
• DVD Recordable
• 6 Cell Lithium Battery T81+

Reg price: $1770.00
Student price: $734.25

I was thinking of purchasing either the Lenovo T530 or W530…haven’t decided yet.

I’m sure your college has some type of Computer purchase program, our school sells HP, Dell, Apple and Lenovo at a good discount.

What’s the rationale behind not upgrading the screen?

If you’re hell bent on purchasing the worst screen resolution in the market, I’m not going to try to dissuade you. Just know that it’s the worst resolution out there. It’s comparable to how bad the 1280x800 is on the 13" MBP.

Additionally, for similar specs, you could get something like the [Acer Aspire TimelineX AS4830TG](<a href=“http://www.amazon.com/Acer-TimelineX-AS4830TG-6450-14-Inch-Aluminum/dp/tech-data/B005J2JE4C/ref=de_a_smtd"]Acer”>http://www.amazon.com/Acer-TimelineX-AS4830TG-6450-14-Inch-Aluminum/dp/tech-data/B005J2JE4C/ref=de_a_smtd) for about 200 less. However, it’s a discontinued line.

Acers don’t have the build quality of lenovo ThinkPad line nor the great warranty provided by ** IBM **.

I own a W530 with the 1080P screen and I would highly recommend it.

Ha! Now that you said it I will look at my school s discount program. Thanks so much!

@del_psi I will look at w530. Thanks! But is it 15 inch?

In general, I advise people to take into consideration which parts of a computer they interact with or use the most, so that means touchpad, keyboard, and screen on a laptop. What good is a beastly machine if you can’t even see what you’re doing, input anything, or attach any peripherals?

If it’s $50 and it’s too much, cut from the processor or hard drive. You’ll benefit much more from a better screen/keyboard/touchpad than better internals.

Also yes, the W530 is 15.6".

@atemporal aoh, yeah, actually that makes sense. I will think about it… Thanks so much for your advises :)
