Enjoy! I have only seen youth productions, not professional ones of Les Mis. My daughter is going to see the tour of Les Mis tomorrow night in Boston.

When I read this last week, I was surprised because it's only been a little over three years since it closed in New York. Although it will borrow the set from the current touring production, the cast is not expected to be the same, which from all I've heard of the current touring cast, is probably a good thing. I would love to see Colm Wilkinson in the role of Valjean again so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they can talk him into doing it!

Me too! Ahh! I'm so excited. It's the one musical that has touched me the most and stayed with me the most of any I've seen. Somehow I am so getting myself to NYC during that time to see it!!! (and also probably buying out the souvenir booth) :)

And Colm Wilkinson...how awesome would that be! Ruthie Henshall or Randy Graff as Fantine would also make my day. Or Lea Salonga as Eponine...

If Lea Salonga came back I'd be on cloud nine... I'm going to see the tour this coming weekend- I miss the show, I haven't seen it in a while, and like a lot of other students, Les Mis was there when I was first getting into MT.

Ugh...... Lea Salonga is too precise and would be a better Cosette. Francis Ruffelle is the best Eponine........... !!!!!!!!!!!
HaHaHaHa. Really, even though I believe the above, I don't think we should start a forum on this subject. It is amazing how passionate people are on other websites about who the "best" actors are for a role. (It is usually based on which CD you got used to when hearing the songs first.)
The funniest arguments are posted on Amazon.com when people give their passionate opinions of the "best", as you try to decide which CD to order. Someone told me they bought 3 different CD's just so she could hear her favorites sing their songs. Shuffling those Cd's around in a car can be pretty distracting!!!!!!!!

drexel, lol, i know exactly what you're talking about. amazon is a funny place to read reviews.. you never can tell what to expect from them..
regardless of everything, i think everyone is happy the show is coming back though. I will say though, that although it was pretty obvious it would be revived soon, I was secretly hoping they'd hold off a few more years so I could be in that cast ;) haha

MtPolk, my daughter saw Les Mis tonight in Boston and loved it and said it was fantastic. She said the Javert was truly outstanding. Also the person playing Jean ValJean was very good. Enjoy!

I'm surprised it ever closed. Even though it really didn't spawn mainstream hit songs, I found the music great and the story actually involving.

I first saw it on Broadway, and was there for an unusual incident. In the middle of Fantine's first solo, the orchestra stopped, the house lights came on, and someone actually asked, "Is there a doctor in the house?" I've never heard that line before or since in a real situation. Turns out one of the musicians had a seizure. After a 20 minute delay, they turned the lights down and restarted her number. The actress nailed it, and got a standing ovation.

First, let me say, ROGER...welcome to the discussions on the MT Forum...so you like MT afterall! :D

Second, while this isn't related to the tour...but an interesting tidbit...my D who just saw Les Mis (is into MT but is not my D in the BFA program but is my 19 yr. old D)...she is applying for jobs in France this summer. We don't yet know what she will get but hope she gets one. But recently one job wrote her in a very promising way. I looked the place up....it is a chateau (would be considered a luxury inn/restaurant in the US) in a summer resort area and the town it is located in is apparently where Victor Hugo wrote Les Mis and every summer, ongoing, they have these outdoor performances based on Les Mis. It seemed like an interesting twist. The rest all looked really good too (I wanna go there!).

The touring cast I saw this weekend was very good.. Randal Keith played Val Jean, and was amazing. I was really surprised to see that Eponine, Cosette and Marius were all recent college grads. Cosette (Leslie Henstock) was a U of Michigan grad, Marius (Adam Jacobs) was a Tisch grad and Eponine (Melissa Lyons) had a BA in music from UCLA. Interesting enough, Eponine was my favorite performer out of the three... she sang the hack out of her songs. Just goes to show that a degree in MT from the big schools isn't the only way to the top.
(Turns our the actor playing Javert was in a production of Forever Plaid I saw in Las Vegas last year.. theatre world really IS pretty small. Go figure, I didn't see him though- I had his understudy.
