Less than 3 weeks to first day of college and she has a concussion!

Thanks all – she is doing really well; as some of you have said, the current protocol is to start doing more brain work/exercises. So she is doing that now. She has clearance to drive, and she is feeling better everyday. She actually said doing things is making her feel better faster. It looks pretty likely she is going to be OKAY! Phew

My son had a very serious concussion (hockey) a few years ago. Even though we had done pre-concussion testing, neurologist used his clinical experience to diagnose it: “good news and bad news: the good news: your kid knows who the Secretary of State is, the bad news is that his eyes looked like a pinball machine when he tried to recall it.”

We were very surprised that this current and up-to-date doctor said video games were fine, even immediately after the concussion. But, not competitive or stressful games. Ditto testing at school: he could sit in classes, take notes if he felt like it, go to the nurse’s office and lie down if he felt like it, but NO TESTING. One teacher shamed him into taking a test, but that’s a story for another thread.

I’m glad that your daughter is feeling better. Our son was loopy for a month, and stopped playing hard-checking hockey (he played Club hockey in college, but only if the opponents were within his comfort zone). There were no long-term effects, although we do kid him that he wasn’t that good at Math UNTIL his concussion (it was more likely a maturational thing  ).
