<p>Two months ago many of you were kind enough to give me some great advice if my daughter needed to defer this fall due to an accident she was in. I just thought that I would update here and say thank you again for all your suggestions. As a refresher, she was thrown out of the back of a pickup truck by an idiot who thought it would be funny to take off with her sitting on the back. She had a fractured skull, with bleeding and swelling of the brain. It has been a long summer of doctors appointments and PT for her jaw (she could not open her mouth) but I am happy to say that we are off to AZ next week for her freshman year! There are still a few issues but none that would keep her from attending school. In fact, the neuropsych. feels that college will be the best thing for her to get her brain moving again. We will have to take a wait and see attitude with how well she is able to do this semester and reevaluate down the road if she is having difficulties. She will have an appointment with the office of disabilities when we arrive so that she has a counselor if one is needed. This could have been a horrible outcome for us all and I am so thankful that she is well enough not to postpone college. I will now be a nervous wreck having her across the country from us but then I take a deep breath and realize I can get on a plane and be there in 5 hours. Thank you all again.</p>

<p>I, too, missed this. I’m glad that she is recovering and wish her a good freshman year. I am sorry that this happened to her. My son started a semester with a busted jaw one year, and that was his best performance term.</p>

<p>wow! and for what it’s worth, i know a young woman who suffered a brain injury toward the end of her senior year in college. The university she’d gotten into was very, very accommodating: unlike other freshmen, she was allowed to take ony two classes and still remain a full time student. She was also given a single in the dorms, and the RA of her floor was told of her condition and what to look out for. This is a big university, 25,000+ students, yet this one single student received everything she needed to ensure she would succeed. So schools can and do help out kids in need. Hope your daughter and you have an equally satisfying experience.</p>
