ryan mallett should be michigans backup. kick a** recruit from texarkana, i've seen his highlights and let me tell u guys that u stole a PRIZe recruit from the lone star state. this kid will be a four year starter, assuming he redshirts this year

We probably won't be redshirting Mallet. Top backup Jason Forcier transfered, and David Cone isn't good enough to be a legit number one backup.

I saw Ryan Mallett at Meijers with his mom Sunday. Looks like another typical Michigan QB - immobile, can't beat O$U, can't win a bowl game, will start at least 3 years and won't get any better.

A2Wolves, I hear Mallett is mobile enough to move in the pocket. He is not as mobile enough to beat you with his legs, but he is mobile enough to avoid the rush and make plays. Whether or not he has the mental speed and the abilty to play under pressure and make the clutch plays is another story. Only time will tell. One thing is certain, he can hit any spot on the field with a great deal of accuracy and he has touch for the short pass. His arm will not be a problem.

this kid is the # 2 QB recruit behind that freaky looking clausen kid at nd. mallet'll be alright

Most people analysts who have seen Mallett play (I haven't mind you) say he is clearly the most advanced QB coming out of high school. Clausen is also very good, but I think he benefits from his brother's legacy and from his going to Notre Dame.

Mallett reminds me too much of Navarre. He's gonna look so goofy under center when he squats down to take the snap.

Maguo, Navarre was not a talented QB. In fact, he wasn't even a natural QB in high school. And people who have seen Mallett move say he is signficantly quicker than Navarre, which I grant isn't saying much!

It doesn't matter if UM has the 2nd best QB in the nation, it doesn't matter if UM stole the top CB in the west coast from USC. The fact of the matter is UM has always had top tier talent, hell our recruiting class in 2004 or 2005 was ranked #2 in the nation by SI. However UM lacks the talent on the sidelines, I have no doubt that even if Pete Carroll had the UM team and Carr had the USC team, Carroll would have still destroyed Carr. In fact I think with a coach like Carroll or Meyer UM would have won the NC last year. I think Mr.Carr is a good, no great person but I don't think he is a good coach and as long as he is coaching this team I will always be prepared for dissapointing seasons highlighted by loss in a bowl game, loss to sweater vest, some unexplainable loss to a mediocre team (take your pick), late breakdowns in games, and horrid or no in-game adjustments.

ok back in 2005 ut had lost to ou 5 straight times... i told myself if they didnt beat ou that year (a year in which texas was clearly the better team) they wud never beat them. 2007 is u of m's year to beat osu, if they dont do it this year, i wudnt be surprised if carr got the can. mack brown was always labeled as a coach who wud keep ut in the top 10 or 5 every year but never win a big game. stoops however owned mack with the same level (or less) talent for 5 years straight. however when mack won the nc (albeit with vince young a once in a decade athlete) he gained more prestige as a coach and stoops has slowly sunk because of his inability to go a quarter w/o screaming at the refs. lloyd carr beats osu this year and he could finally put tressell( who is a somewhat better coach imo although he showed his major flaws against florida) in his rearview mirror assuming umich wins a bcs/nc this year. good luck to michigan i'll be rooting for u every game... unless u come to the rose bowl and lose to texas again this year :)

First of all, Bob Stoops still owns Mack Brown, and I think the NC in 2006 for Brown is kind of similar to the NC in 1997 for Carr. I think both those NCs could be credited to the OVERWHELMING talent on both teams highlighted by the 2 super stars in VY and CW. And the 1997 NC is what had kept Carr off the hot seat, undeservedly so, for the last 10 years of underachieving and it will be what keeps Brown off the hot seat for the next 10 years in Texas, unless the UT athletic department has more balls than the UM one, because Carr will never ever get fired. And westsidewolf I can only hope UM beats Ostate this year but shouldn't we have almost every year, except last year?

Futbil, your analysis of Michigan talent is off. Michigan recruits well, but not as well as USC, Texas and a couple other programs. Michigan's 1997 team was talented, but not unusually so. They didn't have any super QB, WR or RB. In fact, with the exception of Charles Woodson, the team really didn;t have any real super stars. And you are off regarding Carr. He is one of the top coaches in the nation. There is a lot more to coaching than Xs and Os and making adjustments at halftime.

I realize that Carr is a good coach in a sense that he keeps the student athletes out of trouble and teaches good morality but shouldn't you be good at coaching Xs and Os when you're coaching this kind of team. We could talk all day about what a great coach Carr is outside of the Big House and what an inspiration he is to some players but in the end the results on the field are also important as well don't you think? And there is no doubt that Carr has underachieved (A LOT) during his career here. All I am hoping for now is that Bill Martin goes outside the program after Carr retires (hopefully after this season) to hire the new head coach.
