Lessons Learned--Good or Bad?

So in college essays, it's important to show who you are.

But when writing, I keep hearing that it's not good to try to write how you learned or changed, morals, basically ponderings about yourself as a person.

EX) I have learned that it is most important to make the most of life and spend time bonding with others and doing things one loves. Making an impact on others for the better is the most meaningful things one can do. and on and on......

Would it be good to reflect at all about the topic, reflect briefly, or end it like a narrative?

Thanks!! :)

I think, mostly, you just have to make sure you don’t rant or philosophize excessively, and a avoid cliche conclusions (eg: by doing x, I have learned the true value of friendship/that people of all ages/cultures/backgrounds are fundamentally the same/that I should have respected my parents more/etc.)

Yes, that’s true!! I feel like all things we “learn” would be, to some degree, cliche, but there are definitely the more overdone topics. Thanks for your help!!! :)))
