The scissor talk reminded me of when ds initially went to college. I got him a desk organizer and loaded it up with a stapler, ruler, scotch tape, paper clips, post its, and (of course) scissors. He acted all indignant about that. “Mom, I don’t need that.” Me: “You realize there is no kitchen in your dorm room with a junk drawer that has all these items, right?” Silence.
Yup, when S was going to college, I gave him and other college-bound kids a desk survival kit with all the essentials they always “borrowed” from the desk of my or their folks. It had ruler, scissors, several different types of tape, glue stick, legal size envelopes, different pens, sharpie, mechanical pencil, eraser and a few other things. It ended up being the 1st thing S reached for when we got to his dorm room.
Mama knows best!
Instead of scissors, this is my favorite tool. I keep one right by my door to open all deliveries.

I just got my lazy-Susan like @Hoggirl shared. It’s on a shelf in the fridge and full of all the little jam/spreads/olives/pickles jars that usually get shoved to the back. Tomorrow I’m ordering a 12” and another 10”. The big one will go in the fridge and both smaller ones in my cabinet beside the cooktop.
Post a pic of it in the fridge. I could use some fridge organization.
I order several of those things. I had not thought of the fridge, but the real problem there is we just have too much stuff in it.
I remembered an old shelf we’d used for shoes before I redid the front hall closet and organized the floor of my pantry. Big improvement! Also went through two drawers of gloves, scarves, hats and umbrellas and through away everything that didn’t match, had holes, had plastic handles going bad etc. Then packed it back neatly. Felt very productive!
I think we on CC love these organizing/bag a week/ etc. threads because even just a small accomplishment like organizing the gloves feels like a win.
@oldfort, that is definitely the most used anything in my daughter’s apartment. Hardly a day goes by that it goes unused.
That looks great. Thanks for the photo. Maybe my fridge will be that neat one day. Goals!!
Or gathering the MANY unused hangers … I’ve been doing that, and clearly I must have done some nice clothing declutter.
@dragonmom Looks amazing!
Sorry for the unrelated message. I love these Rubbermaid containers and have the same. I used to replace them in Costco every two years, but now they seems to be discontinued in Costco and everywhere else. Have you found them recently; can you share where? I need a new clean set.
SilverGrass, I wish I could find new ones, but I think they have been discontinued.
@dragonmom and others…get these. They are great! Rubbermaid Brilliance
Costco has a 20 piece set for 29.99.
The Rubbermaid Brilliance are very good. I’m guessing they might be the replacement for the ones no longer made. BPA free plastic….and I love how they are totally see through!
Thanks, they are in my cart.
Rubbermaid Brilliance containers are the best I’ve ever used. The seals are amazing - almost like suction. I put them in the dishwasher and haven’t seen any loss of quality.
I just wanted to say my refrigerator game has been enhanced by buying a lazy Susan for inside!
I have a side my side not too large refrigerator- the best option for our space. I don’t love it. Seems it’s always full and hard to find stuff.
I have the lazy Susan on the top shelf - it’s a little deeper - and clear. Is holding jars of jam, pickles, peppers, tahini. So much easier than digging for these things all the time!
