I want to go to HYPS sooooo baaaad
Ok, so I know this probably has nothing to do with my chances, but my asian friend last year was admitted to U Chicago and waitlisted at Stanford with a 32 ACT, and extracurricular activities much worse than mine. GPA was about the same.
Any explanation as to how that happened? I’m just super stressed out because Ivy decisions come out in less than 2 weeks.
Yeah, I’ll explain it.
1- Once you get an essay between 30-36, or 32-36, you’re more or less qualified for any schoop. The fact that you got a 32, and someone else got a 33 will be of little significance to UChicago. UChicago is (arguably) the most essay-focused school out there. Your essay may make or break your UChicago application.
2- Schools don’t stack up every single applicant and measure them against each other. Maybe she had a strong essay that stood out to a few adcoms. Maybe she had unknown childhoof difficulties or financial troubles. In any case, adcoms don’t admit the “best ###” possible on paper. They admit “###” highly qualified applicants.
Does that mean I have a shot at HYPS Upenn?
Becaus I know for a fact that my u Chicago essay wasn’t that great. All my others are pretty good. At least that’s what my English teacher says
Yes you have a shot.
The first time i said essay, I meant ACT (but you probably figured that out). UChicago just puts a lot of emphasis on the essay
Yeah I got that. Thanks! My act was a 35 btw not a 32 haha. My friends was a 32. Thanks for giving me some hope. Appreciate it!
how? essays?
Princeton: reject
Harvard: reject
JHU:reject
WUSTL:Accept
Cornell:Reject
Columbia: Reject
UPenn: Reject
Yale: Reject
Stanford:reject
Northwestern:Reject
Case western: Accept
Uchicago: Accept (high test scores= you get in! Maybe?)
I basing this decision on if I think your chances are over 50%
You will probably get in to one of the super reaches, my list isn’t intended to say that you will be rejected to all of them. It’s just math that if I think your chances are below 50% at a given school that i should say reject. Of course “chance” basically means nothing.
Cool game.
That awkward moment when you realize the thread is super old
You are a pretty strong applicant! But you are Asian and you have some pretty strong competitors! So just apply and hope for the best!
