Let's predict our decisons!

This is a thread where we will predict our decisions, so on M10, we can see how accurate we were. This is based on interviews, effort on essays, correspondence with coaches/teachers, general feeling you have, strength of application, etc.

The way you format this is the school you think you have the MOST chance of getting accepted, put it first. The school that you think will get rejected the most should come last in the rejected section.

For example:

Accepted: Blah, Bleh, Boo
Waitlisted: Ugh, Urgh, Bahh, Teehee
Rejected: Boom, Bam, Hee, Bluch, Blurgh

In the following applicant, they think they will get in School Blah the most. They think they have the least chance at School Blurgh.

Blah>Bleh>Boo>Ugh>Urgh>Bahh>Teehee>Boom>Bam>Hee>Bluch>Blurgh

Then, below your list, list all of your thoughts about each school (in their ranking order) about your interview, strength of essays, etc. Basically say WHY you placed it so high/low on your list.

Example:

Blah: My interview raved about me and got down on her knees and proposed to me.
Bleh: There was a coach there that loved me so much that he tried to stop me from leaving campus.
… (Do this for all of the schools)
Bluch: I accidentally tripped over my shoelace and headbutted my interviewer’s butt. He started crying and screamed at me to leave the campus.
Blurgh: I accidentally put the rival school’s name for all of my essays and I forgot the school’s name during the interview.

Remember, to make the code below work, you must delete the spaces within the brackets. Otherwise it will just appear as it does immediately below.

Make sure to PREVIEW YOUR POSTS to make sure your code works!

Hope this makes sense. Feel free to put all of your schools in one category. Have fun!

** Accepted: Exeter**
Wait listed: Andover
** Rejected: Hopefully neither.**
Likely Attending: Whatever school will take me.

Exeter>Andover (or maybe Andover>Exeter. I think I have an even chance between them, but @mathman1201 and @UIButton think of me as an Exeter student, so that’s why I put Exeter first.)

Andover: I think that my essay was unique and had a very good message. My interview was basically a conversation. My interviewer also introduced me to another AO, and said that I would “benefit Andover.”
Exeter: My interviewer said that I came off as slightly nervous in the beginning, but he was glad I opened up in the middle. He introduced me to a former dean and I chatted with this dean and shook his hand. My essays were fairly strong I think and I have some ECs that might tip me more in the Exeter direction.

** Accepted: Kent, Lawrenceville, Deerfield, Choate**
Wait listed: Andover, Exeter, Milton, Hotchkiss
** Rejected: Groton, SPS**
Likely Attending: Anywhere that accepts me

For all of my schools: I have pretty good grades, 99 SSAT, good teacher recs, and amazing personal and special interest recs.

Kent: My interviewer seemed really impressed, (it was Skype with an AO). She kept smiling at me, and just gave me positive vibes after the interview. Also, the swim coach loves me! We’ve had a lot of correspondence, and Kent doesn’t have a good backstroker, which is my best stroke. My time right now is faster by (a lot) than their current fastest backstroker, which is probably why the coach loves me. One of my essays was TERRIBLE, but my others were pretty good. I’m pretty confident about Kent.

Lawrenceville: My interviewer loved me (alumni at nearby cafe), and we had an intense long conversation (80 minutes long). I think he was really impressed and liked me as a person. This was my best interview out of all of my schools. My essays were pretty strong in general. I have had short conversations with both the XC and swim coach.

Deerfield: My interviewer (skype with AO) liked me as a person. My essays were amazing. No coach replied.

Choate: My interview (phone call alumni) was impressed, if not too impressed. I think he liked me, but I have a feeling that I overwhelmed him. My essays were pretty good. The arts director replied to an email, and she raved and gushed over me (violin).

Andover: My interview (alumni at a regional event) was great. I was super nervous for it, since it was my first, but I did amazing. The guy told my mom that he would be an advocate for me, and that I seemed like a “good kid.” My essays were decent, and my last one was amazing. I’ve had some back and forth with the swim coach and XC coach. I’m putting this as a waitlist to be safe, so I don’t get my hopes up. I really have no clue where to put Andover. It could be anything on M10.

Exeter: My interview (skype with alumni) was okayish good. She asked me a lot of new questions, so I stumbled on some of them. It was considerably longer than my other Skype interviews, and I think she liked me, but I didn’t do amazing. My essays were great. The XC coach gave me a long email back. Nothing from swimming. Same as Andover, putting this as WL to be safe. This can be anything on M10.

Milton: I forgot (!!) to go to my first interview, and it took quite a while to reschedule it. It was a skype with an AO, and she asked me a question which I had no idea what to answer, so there was a REALLY awkward pause for like ten seconds. I asked her if I could go back, but by the end of the interview, I thought of a good answer, and she liked the answer. The interview as a whole was good, but I made flaws such as missing the first one and pausing awkwardly. My essays for Milton were excellent. I got a really sweet reply from the XC coach, and he told me that he contacted the admissions office and told them that he wanted me on the team. Nothing from swimming. I’m putting this as a WL due to my mistakes in my interview.

Hotchkiss: My interviewer (Skype with an AO) was really cranky, and she had her head on her hand during the beginning. However, by the end of the interview, I got her to like me, and she put her head off her hand and actually started to look at my face and smile. I made the mistake of telling her all of my schools that I am applying to, so I have a feeling they’re going to WL or reject me to protect yield. My essays were meh. They were not as good as my other schools. The XC coach and music director gave me a short reply.

Groton: My interview (phone with alumni) was awkward. For some reason, I was really nervous that day and I stumbled a lot and murmured. It was bleh. I made a crucial mistake in my essays (I wrote an essay about swimming), and I completely forgot that Groton doesn’t even HAVE swimming. They’re probably going to toss my application into the fire after that. I have had a lot of correspondence with the Arts head and she raved and gushed over me. The XC coach gave me a really sweet reply. All in all, I’m predicting a big fat rejection.

SPS: My interview (Skype with AO) was HORRIBLE. Again, I forgot that SPS didn’t have swimming, and I rambled on and on about swimming, how I’m passionate about it, blah blah blah. I was like, “Why is he writing down so much?” while I was talking about swimming, and then I realized mid-sentence. It was SO awkward. He even said, “Well… you seem like a serious swimmer…” I tried to show him that I don’t care that SPS doesn’t have swimming, and that I love it for everything else, but he seemed doubtful of me. I’ve had correspondence with the XC coach. I’m predicting another big fat rejection from SPS.

And that sums it up. I’m actually not going to count on any acceptances, but I’m hoping for the best.

I would love to have a prediction, but it’s impossible to distinguish between what I think will happen and what I desperately want to happen.

Try your best, if you can. Even mine seems completely wrong after like 40 minutes. @stargirl3

I’m not posting my list 'til I get decisions, so I’ll have to keep my predictions to myself for now.

Okay, that’s fine.

Rejected from all the schools!!

Accepted: Maybe Andover
Wait listed: Possibly Exeter. Not sure.
Rejected: Hopefully NOWHERE
Likely Attending: If either of these two schools accept me, I’m going!

Other statistics: I have the academic side covered pretty well I think. All A’s in challenging courses and my SSAT was a 99. I think my teacher recs and personal/special interest recs were pretty good as they all compliment me often and they really seem to like me. My school report rec was “meh” and I thought it would be better because I have a really good relationship with that person. It was honestly kind of disappointing and I hope some of the comments do not work against my favor. I hope that my personality and my essays will cancel this out. Additionally, I hope my passions will help me stand out and maybe my awards/achievements will help me too.

My AOs were different people than my interviewers.
Andover interview: On-campus. I thought that this interview was more comfortable/conversational than the other one and I barely stumbled/stammered. It was about 30-40 minutes. My interviewer asked me more about my family and how I would fit or feel accustomed to the Andover community and I think I answered the questions well. I felt like my interviewer got to know me more as a person. My Andover interviewer seemed to really like my questions too and really enjoyed answering them. After our interview we had a very normal conversation about the weather and our lives in general. I feel like my Andover interview was a bit stronger than my Exeter one. My only qualms is that my interviewer thought I was pretty serious so I hope that person didn’t think I was too uptight xD, but I did get compliments about how I was very unique and interesting so hopefully this is a good sign. No comments about advocating for me, though. :frowning:

Exeter interview: On-campus. I think it went pretty well but I wish I communicated more about my passions. It lasted for maybe about 30-40 minutes. I completely forgot my small preparation for the interviews beforehand so my responses were all natural and not forced but I definitely stumbled a bit. I asked a lot of questions and my interviewer seemed to like them because she thought I had “really great” and “unique” questions. I shared an idea I had and she said it was really unique. Funny thing was, she was actually the director of the place where I would generate my idea. I think I kind of bombed this part though because I stumbled a bit and completely forgot my list of pros/cons which probably could have provided for a more lengthy conversation. We did discuss further about the topic, though but I wish we bonded more on that part. I unintentionally set myself apart as an individual with a particular/unique interest in a certain area, which is great, haha. Overall, she said I was a very interesting and intellectual individual. No comments about advocating for me, though.

Andover essays: In my first one, I tried to show my passion as well. Hopefully that made me stand out. My second and third essays were more technical because they involved more of an “idea” theme. I tried to put my personality in there and make it unique. I think I picked a unique idea for my third essay (long) and it showed a lot of planning so I feel more comfortable with this essay rather than my Exeter ones.

Exeter essays: I think my first one was alright. I hope it showed some growth/maturity. My second one was a lot better because I wrote a lot about my passion and I hope it stood out.

Why I ranked Andover above Exeter?
I think my Andover interview went a lot more smoothly than the other one and I felt like I could communicate my personality more effectively. I also think my Andover essays probably would stand out more as opposed to my Exeter essays. I communicated more with the Andover coaches/department heads and tried to show my passion in my emails. A lot of them said that they really hoped to see me in the fall and work with me so maybe that is a good sign…I doubt they would advocate for me though. It was a hard decision ranking because I honestly have no idea how the decisions will turn out to be. I do have two parts where both schools are really under-represented, but I have no idea how much Andover and Exeter value those types of diversity in admissions decisions. I have a pretty good relationship with my Exeter AO and that person really seems to like me, but I am not sure if that person will advocate for me during admissions decisions. Andover has a different process for AO, so I doubt anyone really had a chance to build up relationships with those AOs. The comments that called my “interesting” during my interviews were sort of ambiguous in my opinion, so I am not sure if those comments hold any weight or if they are a common comment to all applicants. Overall I honestly have no idea where I will go and whether if I will be accepted, but I am crossing my fingers and hoping for the best. I love both of these schools equally and selfishly I would love to be accepted to both so that I would have the opportunity to choose for myself. However, that most likely is not going to happen, so whatever school decides to accept me (if they will), then I will “love the school that loves me” and attend that school.

Whewwww this was loonngggg…I tried to make it detailed to be helpful!

YOU GUYS ARE SO AMAZING AND HAVE SUCH AMAZING SCORES AND IM LIKE… HI…

@UIButton‌ My reaction exactly!

** Accepted: Choate, Deerfield**
Wait listed: Groton, Hotchkiss, Middlesex,
** Rejected: Andover **
Likely Attending: IDK

I have all As and A+s, I take Honors Geometry I, all my recs should be very good, I got an overall 95% on the SSAT

Choate: the reason I put Choate first is I go to a school with a super good relation to Choate, and lots of kids from my school get in and I am one of the top kids in my class so it would make sense, however I am nervous because I am applying as a boarding student but most kids apply for day from my school. My interview went really well though and one of my friends who had the same interviewer as me said that the interviewer kept on talking about me which seems like a good sign.

Deerfield: the reason I put Deerfield as an acceptance is because number 1, I really want it to happen, and number 2 I am on the music and theatre directors wish list. Also I think my essays were really strong.

Groton: My interviewer really liked me and said “I was an intellectual”. And I have made a lot of contact with the Music director, however I don’t think my essays were the best .

Hotchkiss: I think my interview was sort of flat but basically good, my essays were really very strong.

Middlesex: My interview was really great, but I think my essays were weak and I haven’t been able to get in contact with anyone in the Music or Theatre departments.

Andover: I think I wont get in because even though my interview and essays were really strong I dont think I have done enough exciting things to get into Andover.

Side note: I am starting to get nervous and frustrated with myself for not keeping in contact with my interviewers. I sent thank you notes and was polite and everything but seeing as I dint really have any questions I didn’t keep up any long correspondences with my interviewers which I am worried about.

Huh, that’s interesting. I’ve never heard of an interviewer talking about a different applicant during an interview. That’s peculiar. @bschoolsearcher

@mathman1201 I think it was something like this girl (who is quite similar to me) talking about something that she was doing at school or asan extracurricular and the interviewer would say I remember @bschoolsearcher telling me about that, or isn’t she also doing this. Which seems like a good sign that she remembered me about 3 weeks to a month after my interview.

That is a good sign! Great. @bschoolsearcher

@thelittleswimmer what happened with your school report? That sounds so strange

** Accepted: Cranbrook, Madeira, Emma Willard **
*Wait listed: Hotchkiss, Blair **
** Rejected: Andover, Exeter **
Likely Attending: We’ll see.

I’ve got a strong school report: grades, recs, everything is good. My SSAT was a 98/99 (grade/grade gender). I’m not worried about these things.

I’m kind of lacking in the extracurriculars department, though. You’ll see the details on my chance-me thread. I have some qualifications, but nothing major, nothing that will get me into Andover and Exeter.

Madeira: Skype with AO. I actually
miscalculated the time zone difference and so, when the AO Skyped me at 5 pm, I was totally unprepared because I’d thought it was 6 pm. I got my dad to speak to her, rapidly got ready and took the interview. I was also sick then (could anything else go wrong -.-’) but I got through it… She seemed to like my impromptu answers though. She told me a funny story about mixing up time zones in Mexico when I apologized for my mistake. She was super nice. (: My application was pretty strong, and I’m hoping for an acceptance.

Cranbrook: One of my best friends goes there. The Director of Admissions interviewed me when he came here for a boarding school fair, and he was so NICE. He kept mentioning that I would be a great fit for Cranbrook, that I could always ask him or my friend for the “inside scoop” if I ever had any questions, and so on. He sent me an email saying my essay was great, too. I’ve got my hopes up high for this one.

Emma Willard: Also interviewed at the boarding school fair here. Honestly, I’m not sure about this one… My interview was fine, nothing special, nothing bad. I’m leaning on my numbers to get me through the admissions, more than usual here. My essays were fine, my application in general was fine… Everything was fine. Hopefully.

Hotchkiss: Skyped with AO. The interview was kind of flat, actually. Nothing bad- we just didn’t “connect”, I guess. My essays were great, though.

Blair*: I’m putting this one as a waitlist because even if I’m accepted, I don’t think they’ll give me FA. The interviewer at the boarding school fair was really positive when I told him Blair was one of my dream schools, but I had to give it up because they don’t give FA to int’l students. He told me to apply and then we’ll see. Obviously that’s a sort of empty promise, but I actually love Blair, so we applied. Interview was fine, although I think I might’ve gushed a little bit about the school.

Exeter: I loved the interview, and the interviewer. It was Skype with alumnus, and he made me feel at ease at once. It was a good day- I thought up quick answers to everything, I looked passable, and I gave off a positive impression. My mom was listening from the other room, and she thought it was my best Skype one. My application was also strong. I just don’t think I’m exceptional enough to get into a school like Exeter. If it happens, well, hallelujah

I think I’m out of space… so I’m going to finish with Andover here.

Andover: By far my favorite interview. It was a personal interview with a parent of alumni (both children!!). What I loved was that he didn’t just ask about me and why I wanted to go to Andover. We also discussed current events, which is one of my favorite topics, and I spoke without reservation. I think he liked that. He praised me to my parents later, and said I was the kind of kid Andover’s looking for. My application was great. I’m predicting rejection though because again, I don’t think I’m exceptional enough to get into Andover. The stats of the other applicants terrify me. If I somehow do manage an acceptance… Well, dream come true, frankly. (:

In one of my interviews I was told that I gave the most detailed answer my AO has ever received except for one girl who was a senior at the school. @mathman1201‌

Woohoo which school? @GryffinHunter
