I didn’t submit an art supplement to Caltech (feel like I should have at least submitted one picture), and I’m starting to regret it… I don’t know if I want to go to Caltech or MIT more. I haven’t visited MIT, but if I get in, I’ll have to visit to decide.
And yes, I drew the Einstein on my profile. The same one I submitted.
The reference is Lord of the Rings (Eowyn: I am no man!).
I actually don’t think you can submit an art supplement to Caltech… like they said on their website something along the lines of “we like that you do music and art but please don’t send any supplements”
Well, I guess that’s good then. Hoping for the best… should get notifications tomorrow if Caltech plans on releasing decisions Saturday…
Meanwhile I’ve got that MIT counter up.
Here’s the countdown!

This thread is really quiet today. Did everyone get discouraged by Caltech decisions or sth?
Yes definitely for me @qwerytiop On the Caltech thread, someone mentioned how Caltech is less holistic - do you guys think MIT is more holistic?
I am discouraged by Caltech decisions…
And MIT is supposed to be more Holistic I think.
I read a comment by MITChris on the blog, from 19 hours ago, that they are still not done with decisions! And decisions are coming out on Wednesday! @-)
They’ve scheduled it all so that they’ll be done before they release all the decisions. They’ve probably only got a handful of applications to finish going through. Don’t worry they’ll have it all done in time.
Do you guys think I have a chance with a 700 SAT II physics score and no research?
You have a chance, yes.
Guys, I’m looking back at my interview, and I think I may have messed up. My interviewer was telling me about how he lived in a frat right away, because the dorms were really nerdy. I said, yeah, I might consider doing that (not really), because my sister said the dorms were kinda gross (apparently she said only EC, her dorm, was), and that that was my biggest concern. Is this bad, to say something that makes it look like I don’t think MIT is perfect/my ultimate dream school?
For the record, knowing the dorms now, I really like them.
Absolutely! =) The SAT Subject Tests are just a small part of your application - and you don’t need to do research in order to get admitted to MIT. There are many people with perfect scores who are not admitted, and many people with less than perfect scores who are. The main point of the test scores seems to be to confirm that you will be able to do well at MIT, and according to a lot of comments by MIT staff and alumni that I’ve read on red.dit.com/r/mit and the MIT Blogs, 700 is more than enough for that. Once the admissions office has determined that your test scores, GPA and grades are sufficient (and class rank and whatnot), they will look at your application holistically - taking into account all other parts of your application. Personally, I would think that your essays, teachers’ and counselor’s LORs and evaluations, your EC’s interview report, and the rest of your application, et cetera is much more important.
@tutututututuru You’ll be fine XD. I did essentially the same thing with food XD.
I hope you’re right!
I’m so nervous. I really don’t expect to get in but I have a few things going for me. My brother is a sophomore on the soccer team at MIT and he has a 5.0, plus I have support from lacrosse coach and wind ensemble director. Still not very confident because it is so hard to get in. Only three days left…
I’ve nothing going for me, but I know that regardless of the outcome, I’ll be the same person I am today. Best of luck, y’all!
@XoXdreamerXoX That’s a great outlook.
I wish I had the same positive view lol
Didn’t go great with Caltech, so I’m hoping on MIT…
EDIT: I want to clarify that I did not prefer Caltech over MIT… but they were tied for my first-choice school.
I got deferred from Caltech also. A lot more effort went into MIT app though with maker portfolio and such, so i’m hopeful. Best of luck guys!
