Hello, I am determined to write a letter of appeal to Syracuse University. I was recently not granted admission and I would like to put my all into writing a letter of appeal. I believe I need to write a letter for myself knowing I tried my best to get in.
Can you all help me construct a powerful letter. (I have not found a special format that Syracuse uses for appeals)

Don’t bother. I’ve never heard of this ever working at any university.
Move on.

@soze thanks for your honesty but I’m still trying

Unfortunately your ‘Rejection’ status is not good and it’s common nature for many to go through a phase of denial right after receiving notification. Most others in your shoes shift gears immediately and no longer come back to this SU forum. It would be unjust to ‘Waitlist’ students if Colleges accepted students that were not even in consideration for any given reason(s).

Secondly, you’re asking for others to assist you in your composition for appeal to the decision which does not tell me that you are wholly sincere and an independent thinker. Relying on others to help you get the job done does not portray a mindset of originality. This has to come from within and no one else, which also shows me by posting this thread that Admissions may have detected this character of yours in your application essay.

As I feel for your grief with this unpleasantness, I’ll have to agree with @soze’s statement. Don’t keep setting yourself up for despair and move on to accept joy of attending another fine College that you’ve been accepted to. Otherwise, you may continue your next 4 years with constant disdain at your future educational institution.

More and more in your upcoming adult life you’ll hit the many bumps in the road that jolt each and every one of us slightly in our comfortable seats. One must learn not to stop and check it out because it’s not going to change that fact that you went over it. Just keep on driving and look for the smooth areas ahead of you while having a bigger than ever smile on your face. Positive destinations lie ahead and await you. Go there and don’t look back!

Good luck!

Unless you have some compelling issue that was not identified in your application or some huge accomplishment (much higher test scores, top finish in a major national competition, etc.) since your application went in, there is no point in this at all. If you really, really want to go there – attend one of the schools you did get into, get great grades when you get there, and apply to transfer. Do not waste your time with an appeal letter. It won’t do any good, and in fact could just annoy admissions (who will be the same people looking at your transfer application if you go down that path). You need to be mature enough to accept that your application was not sufficient for admission, and go out and accomplish something that makes them willing to take a second look (eg, great grades next fall at a different school).

Some schools have an appeals process. I know UCLA does. However, they have very specific reasons you can appeal such as intparent mentioned. For example, if you want to send in tapes of you in the band or something else the school might value that was not in your original application. I disagree with the others…it can’t hurt to try and if you want it this much, why not. No downside
