Letter of Explanation?

I'm slightly worried about my Mid-year progress report. My grades aren't going to be what they should be. By which I mean that whilst I'm not going to be getting straight-A's, I'm still not going to be doing horribly bad either. There have been some emotional reasons for my grade drop and I was wondering whether it might be a good idea to send them a letter informing them of this.

Any suggestions on how to write it without sounding too much like a sob story? Also, would anyone be willing to read it through after I write it?

This belongs more on the college admissions forum. I’m kind of having the same issue as you with grades, and I was thinking about sending an explanatory note too, not sure whether to do it through e-mail or snail mail though. I would keep the letter relatively short since admissions is quite busy, so just write direct reasons for your drop in grades. Don’t beat around the bush.

Unless it is something truly serious, it probably wouldn’t be a good idea. It may seem like you’re making excuses or getting senioritis, or complaining about the how much work there was with college apps, etc. That is, unless your emotional reason is like a relative’s death or something, etc.
