Just wondering. How big of an impact would a letter of recommendation from volunteering in the hospital (200 hours) be? I was planning to talk to my volunteer coordinator if she could write me one. I volunteered in several different departments in the hospital (ICU/T-ICU, Phlebotomy Lab, Rehabilitation Dept.) Would a letter of rec from the hospital make colleges look at me? I'm applying to USF,USC, University of the Pacific, Stanford, and Santa Clara University. I have quite a few stretch schools (namely USC, UOP, Stanford).

This rec letter would be your “supplemental”. The ones that matter most are from teachers who can attest to your classroom presence. One thing is this voluntarism is not uncommon. It won’t hurt – but certainly won’t make anyone say “wow”

Unless it’s an amazing letter and highlights something significant about you that doesn’t come out in the rest of your application, it’s not worth sending, as admissions officers won’t feel that it was worth their time in reading.

Do you know what you want to major in? That may make a difference too.
