Letter of rec help!!!!! Please!

I recently asked my 10th grade english teacher (who knows me really well) to write me a letter of recommendation only to discover that some schools like stanford want letters from 11th and 12th grade teachers. How much of an impact will this make? Can I (should I) still use this TR when applying?

Stanford "requests two letters of recommendation from 11th and 12th grade teachers".
So if I send in a rec from a 10th grade teacher, what would the consequences be if any?

Please help! Thanks!

They will certainly not look kindly upon it. However, if the rest of your application is strong, then it should not be too much of a detriment.

It wouldn't be a good idea to use that rec. College admissions officers want recs from 10th and 11th grade teachers ONLY; they know people change over the years. The main point of the teacher rec is not only to better gauge your personality, but also to get a glimpse into who you are in the classroom. They wouldn't trust a teacher you had two years ago to provide a solid account.

Honestly, I don't think teacher recs are VERY important--they won't make or break you, as admissions officers know some teachers aren't very honest. The main issue is that, if you submit a 10th grade teacher's rec when a school specifically asks for 11th or 12th grade, it seems like you either can't follow directions or have no respect for the school. Either way, it leaves a bad impression. And with the competition this year, that can really hurt.
