Hi. I received some letters from a certain prestigious University. Is this a good sign come next year in the applications process? It wasn't specific letters or anything, just some general info about the school. How selective are certain schools about sending out information in the mail about their school?

My SAT score isn't amazing (compared to CC standards, with people who ***** about 2390's and whatnot; it makes me sick to my stomach); thus, there has to be something else I did that made me standout (I am valedictorian, if that means anything.)

Are you a junior who recently took the PSAT? If so, it doesn't mean anything at all. As long as you get above a certain threshold and bubbled in certain grade averages on your sheet, you will get letters from certain schools.

Trust me, I got letters and viewbooks from plenty of big-name schools (HYPS, etc.). But so does everyone else.

Did you take the PSAT and allow CB to release your info? If so, then that's why. In any case, getting mail from a prestigious university like Brown doesn't mean a whole lot in terms of admissions; it's a good sign--that you might be a good candidate to attend--but it's largely to boost applications (lowers acceptance rate, increases chances of getting better applicants, helps prestige, brings in a ton of money in app fees, etc.)

Heh, expect a lot of mail from WUStL. (I feel bad how many trees they kill in their attempts to lure so many students who have absolutely no interest in the school.)
