Just got my congressional nomination package. My question is: when I ask teachers/coaches etc. to write letters of rec, I am going to include a "resume" of my high school career; What subjects should I have them write about? (obviously leadership etc., but what else?) Thanks

Hola, WP2010!
Good luck in your admissions voyage, aka the longest year of your life!

I can give you one cool suggestion--I think this worked well for me, because in my interview with my Senetor, they brought up something my coach had written in his letter. Early in the cross country season (I'm lady varsity captain), one of my girls (Liisa) rolled her ankle in the middle of a 6 mile run--we were about 2.5 miles from school. I sent half to girls onward to complete the run and the other half and I took turns piggy-backing Lisa to the trainer's office. My coach decided to write that anecdote into his letter, and it ended up being the subject of much conversation during my nomination interview.

So if your coach has any anecdotes about you to share, particularly ones that reflect "leadership under pressure" ie, something goes wrong and you fix it--I'm sure this has happened to you--ask him to jot it down.

I can't guarentee that this will help, but it's worth a shot...depending on your district, you could have a lot of similar letters of rec and you definately want at least one of them to stand out. Good luck.

at least in 2009 class it asked for three specific references, but on the candidate page it left a spot if you turned in another recomendation.... keep an eye for how to do the references, from others who have a better idea than I
