Letters of Recommendation from Employer?

My pediatrician that I have worked for, as an assistant in her office and have babysat her children, wrote me letter of recommendation as she knows I am applying to college (CSU Fullerton, Cal Poly Pomona, UCLA, UCI, Loyola Marymount, Pepperdine, U of Maryland and Claremont Mckenna). Does anyone know if any of these schools would accept a letter of rec from her, my employer? I have tried to look it up but most say from a core teacher or counselor. If not, could I send it anyways?

Also, she told me she was done with it and I should come pick it up from her house. Can i mail it to the university myself? Or does she have to? Thanks in advance!

If a college accepts ANY rec letters (many do not – and have NO way of reading unsolicited ones), the teacher recs come first. IF they allow a supplemental, then YES, it’s ok to send this DR’s letter in. You can mail a photocopy to the admissions office if this is the case.

@T26E4 so if the college accepts letters from people other than teachers and counselors it will say somewhere that they accept supplemental letters of Rec? And in that case I can send it in? Thanks for your response I really appreciate the help!

As a general rule of thumb, ONLY the very selective colleges that practice holistic admissions (LACs, Ivies, some other selective schools) want any sort of rec letter. Among them, fewer still want supplementals (such as yours) in the student files.

Most colleges have no time or desire to devote resources into reading them. They feel completely confident admitting students w/o such additions.

Best of luck to you
