As you probably know, colleges ask for letters of recommendation from teachers and a counselor. I already have the letters from my teachers, yet I’m confused about something. In Colombia, there are no counselors as in the US, which is why I asked my School’s previous headmaster to guide me and provide a counselor recommendation letter. Nevertheless, a new headmaster took his place and was my Global Perspectives teacher last year. I built a great relationship with the new headmaster and asked a letter of recommendation from him. He listed ALL of my extracurricular activities (whereas my counselor didn’t and he only knows about 2 which I participated in while he was in the headmaster position) and told me he’d include all of this information in his recommendation letter so that it was holistic, for he thought he had to evaluate more than my grades and performance in Global Perspectives class. My question is: should all extracurricular activities be listed by the counselor, or can teachers include them too? It’s a long list of extracurricular activities that can be deeply explained in order to reflect my personality. I’ve thought of changing my counselor, as I believe my current headmaster has a better and wider approach to what and who I am. Should I change my counselor? How do I tell my current counselor I’d rather have the current headmaster’s counselor recommendation? What is the main bifference between what is exposed in a counselor recommendation letter and a teacher recommendation letter?
Thank you very much!
