letters of recs

<p>there's only 3 professors in my major's department. rest are associate professors or assistant professors. Would the higher the title be beneficial for an LOR or does it not matter?</p>

<p>The individual with which you had the best relationship with would be the one, whether it’s a research assistant or the dean of the college.</p>

<p>so you’re saying a well written LOR from a research assistant will be just as good as a well written LOR from the dean?</p>

<p>If the research assistant worked more closely with you and can write an extensive, detailed letter about your work while all the dean can say is “he got an A in my class,” then yes, the research assistant’s letter would be stronger. Titles aren’t everything.</p>

<p>My LoRs came from: the director of the J-school, attesting to my academics; the ag school’s science writer/adjunct j-prof, who supervised my research internship; the recreation partnership manager for Alaska Region USFS, who supervised my field internship.</p>
