How many of you have your parents told you the money "limit" on universities for tuition, etc, and you worry about filling out applications and your parents worry about the financial stuff (aid, etc)?

I worry about the money aspect. My parents have offered to pay for 6 applications (most of the places I’m applying to offer full financial aid and I’m going to apply for several scholarships/grants (need/merit/special situation based)). I hate that I can’t find a job because I feel bad about having them pay :|

Fortunately, I have some $$$ saved up from working. I do not want to become any broker than we already are. And there are two of us! x2 everything. If I can help take off some burden, I will. It’s the least I can do. I am trying not to have them pay anything at the moment. Maybe for SUNY and CUNY but not privates.

I’m paying for my own education. The whole nine yards. Well, actually, my dad is paying for a couple of the application fees that the fee waivers don’t cover. My dad doesn’t have enough money to pay for anything really. It’s not that he doesn’t want to, he just doesn’t have the ability to.

I’m doing the best within me to get great scholarships and do things that’ll get colleges to notice me (I.e. Making a film, raising my gpa significantly) so that they’ll want me there. You should look into fullride scholarships like the Posse Foundation.

My mom is helping me with applying for financial aid, yes. Mostly because it’s a long, confusing process, and our financial situation is kind of confusing in itself. I have to find schools where I can get a full-ride scholarship, or as close to it as possible without having to take on a lot of loans. I have graduate school to think about; I don’t want a lot of debt.

There are a lot of colleges that offer a waiver of application fees to everyone who applies. There is a list on College Confidential that was updated last year:

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/college-search-selection/444532-list-colleges-free-apply-13.html

Also, you can request a fee waiver for any college. The worst thing that can happen is the college says no. Doesn’t hurt to try.

here’s a better list. 290 colleges that have no application fees:

My family has no money for college, but we are not focussing on that. I am paying for my own applications and tests (ACT/AP exams) and applying to a few schools that I am confident I can get enough financial aid from. But other then that I am applying where I love and I am just waiting to see what happens when it comes to cost.
