How good are the liberal arts programs at Elon? Especially at the upper class levels, are students in history & the social sciences happy with course choices, depth of departments, variety of perspectives, discussion level, quality of teaching? Are the departments recruiting seasoned faculty or are most of the new hires young PhDs? How does the philosophy of experiential learning translate for liberal arts majors?

I can’t speak too much to the programs you ask about since my S is business, but taking a look through the course catalog is impressive:

http://www.elon.edu/docs/e-web/academics/catalog/Academic_Catalog_2011-Pages49_316.pdf

Also I think the fact that there is a fellows program, Elon College Fellow, speaks of the emphasis that the school places on the liberal arts and that there are core requirements that all students must take in the liberal arts also tells of its importance.

You can also look at all the faculty on line to get a better sense of who they are.

The president this past weekend spoke about excellence in liberal arts education. I would think that with the focus on engaged learning that discussion level would be intense.
