Liberal Arts College

Hi everyone, this year I intend to apply to college (as an undergraduate student), especially liberal arts college, I do not know much about colleges which are good at topology program. Can you suggest for me some, even top school or national university that is fine cause I need to make a school list. Thank you.

You can check colleges’ course catalogs to see what selection of junior/senior (and graduate) level math courses they offer. If a particular subarea like topology interests you, then you can check for those specific subareas.

Is there any ways that I can rate the professor who teaches that subject?

A flawed site exists for finding out how well a professor teaches. It’s called rank my professors. Only the most motivated go rank their professors, so it’s skewed to the two extremes of loathing and loving. There is a modicum of value, however.

Best is if you narrow down the schools, then go speak to some of the students. You can ask an adcom for names of students, but they will steer you toward their most happy students. Otherwise go hang out in the cafeteria or in the student lounge and ask around. Another check is how often a professor publishes and the topics he/she is publishing about. The clarity of the language and so on will also give you clues about how well this person can understand the experience of others and how well he/she can express complex ideas to an eager audience.

These LACs appear in a Princeton Review category, Great Schools for Mathematics Majors, and tend offer interesting electives such as knot theory:
