Wesleyan is only preppy in the literal sense that there are a bunch of kids there that attended prep schools. That’ll be true at every NESCAC school. But as @circuitrider pointed out, Wes is probably the artsy-est of the NESCAC schools (and one of the lefty-est), so I think your read, @samantha827, was the correct one.
@rayrick Ok thank you!! That makes sense… Do you think I will be able to find a similar and close group of friends at Wesleyan? I wouldn’t say I’m the type of person who dyes their hair and has a bunch of piercings and listens to alternative rock… But I’m definitely looking for something not pretentious… Would you say Wesleyan is a good fit?
@samantha827 When someone uses the term “Goldilocks” they mean moderate, neither too hot nor too cold, not extreme.
Haven’t you read the story?
Also before you go down this road, the schools being discussed have very low acceptance rates and to people not familiar with them, they provide quite a shock to strong students this time of year.
What are your stats, GPA and test scores. Do you have any special talents? What state are you from?
Wes is a very diverse place in many respects. I think the only uniformity you’d be dealing with is that it’s overwhelmingly politically liberal. While there’s plenty of overtly alternative types there, I don’t think they dominate the scene (we’ve certainly visited notably freakier schools in our travels). There’s plenty of sporty kids, too, and plenty of kids that are just casual clothes, laid-back attitude types. It’s also a little bigger than most LACs, so that might make it a bit easier to find your crowd. Personally, I think having a vibrant arts scene is a really nice thing on a college campus – lots of cool performances of one sort or another to go to! Not to mention fun parties with good live music! But then, I would think that – I’m an arts lover myself and a Wes alum
