I was looking to find some input/experiences from current or former students of LU? I am currently overseas on deployment and will not have the opportunity to visit prior to applying. I have never met anyone who has attended the school before so any information would be appreciated.

There’s a book about spending some time there by an “outsider”.

I have spoken with many students who have graced the halls of Liberty; most have loved their experience. I think that part of how you adapt to Liberty life will depend on your personal beliefs and your ability to be understanding of differences, if there are some. I attended as a Distance Learning student and sometimes found that my Christian beliefs and those of my professors differed…possibly even on purpose. It challenged me to stand firm in what I believed but also understanding of other beliefs. Sometimes the differences were unimportant…sometimes what hey said made me think (and dig further into my studies to see if my beliefs were right or wrong). Living on campus does mean you will have to conform to their rules but it can be a very good experience.

Liberty University is very religious. They have a strict dress code, require students to be “sexually pure,” prohibit alcohol use, and have all but banned the college democrats. My advice? Stay the hell away. College is a time to learn and grow, and you can’t do that if you’re college is intent on treating you like you are 12 and limiting your exposure to alternative viewpoints (or, you know, real science).

I got to meet a couple of students from there this past year. They both loved their experience, but they admitted that one fits in the best if one shares their Christian views. My “experience” is all hearsay as Liberty is a bit below my lower bar academically for my boys. It’s never been a consideration for our family, but many kids from our local schools go there if they want a Christian college. Messiah is the other one many local kids go to for a Christian college. Messiah is quite a bit more liberal in their Christian beliefs. Liberty is more conservative.
