For a womens college in an urban area, what do current students think of it? Does Barnard have an advantage over Columbia? What are the highlights of Barnard? What is the residential life like?

please answer! I want to learn more about barnard to!

Both of my daughters went there. One loved it the other liked it but was less enthusiastic. Columbia and Barnard are very close. This applies to class work. The main difference is in the core classes. At Columbia this is called “the core” and is made up of a number of general areas but basically includes everything all educated persons should know. Barnard on the other hand has what they call " the nine ways of knowing". This a mixture of required and elective courses that introduces the student to many facets of knowledge. An example would be the requirement for a year of a laboratory science. Many young women who don’t think they are cut out for science discover a love for it and find a life career. Jana Levin in the department of physics started out as an undergrad as a philosophy major. Barnard is all about self discovery as are most women’s colleges. Columbia might be better for someone who was already headed in a certain direction. The extracurriculars are largely run in common.

I’d love more info on this too
