Life at UC Riverside

You are right. If you’re just using UCR as a “stepping stone” for dental school, it has a rather strong biology department (and is aiming for a medical school). Academically it’s okay, my biggest gripe is the social stuff and lack of school spirit and pride. Best of luck to you there!

Thank you for your support and advice alarasus, basically everything you said is true and now I feel more confident than ever about UCR.
Thanks also rccola70

You should be posting in the UCR section of the forum because obviously these people don’t know that MUCH about UCR seeing as how 99% of them have been in community colleges and are currently transferring to. Everything they are telling you is pure hear-say.

I suggest going to the UCR section and ask some current students there about it. I live here in So. Cal and have a few friends that go there and they really really like the campus and the student environment.

As long as you have a car then you will be fine out here. There is plenty to do if you are able to commute from place to place.

Allow me to say it again, you are asking the WRONG people for what UCR is really about. Ask someone who goes there, not someone who didn’t even apply there.

Also, allow me to add that the UC system is much more prestigious than the Cal State system. UCR > CPP

thanks for the tip Iamjustin. I’m sorta new at this whole forum thing. Is there any way I can move this thread to the UCR section?
Thanks

Just start a new thread here

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-california-riverside/

When you make the new thread maybe post a this thread in it. The students that currently attend can skim this thread and can comment on any fallacies that were posted from people here.

Cal Poly is more of a commuter school. UCR isn’t that great either. It doesn’t have a real college atmosphere.

I have way more than just a few friends who go to UCR (including many alums) and have spent many many days/weekends there. And I can tell you that there is a reason why UCR is ranked in the top 10 for least-happy students. That place is a ****hole. Everyone there just wants to transfer out and only learns to like the place after they realize they didn’t have the grades to.

“According to “The Best 368 Colleges: 2009 edition,” UCR ranks sixth worst among the top 10 schools with the least-happy students.”

And your second argument isn’t a very good one because you are essentially saying “that place isn’t that bad because you can go to other places.” By your logic living in Compton isn’t that bad because you can drive to Beverly Hills.
