Life at USF

I am really considering USF if I don't get into UF! How strong are they in the sciences (particularly their biomedical and biology undergrad)? I want to be a vet, so I'm hoping I can intern at Busch gardens, since I had previous experience with exotics. I remember last time I went to USF, I felt violated by random students. They made inappropriate comments and were pigs :( I hope that won't always be the case. I am not too much of a clubber, but I love the beach. I heard ybor was pretty trashy anyways. I'm hoping for nice beaches! Any input would help.

hey lavender i too am going to USF this fall and i have heard nice things about it. ya some people are like that but i guess we all have to deal with it. and ya i too am going onto a medical field. the 7 year accelerated program is one of the best program USF offers. you should try for that.
and btw hasn’t UF’s decisions has all been out yet? are they still giving it out?

I’m a transfer student, not an incoming freshman. And no I have not heard back from UF.

lavender, sorry to hear some guys talked nasty to you. It isn’t a widespread problem at USF by any means. As an example some of the football players like to hang by the campus Burger King and at night in front of Holly dorm where a lot of them live, when a girl walks by they might start up, but they are harmless and if they get vulgar just ignore them cause they are just trying to be cool with their buddies and should know better than getting foul or offensive.

Clearwater Bch, St. Pete Bch., Ft. Desoto, and even Sarasota/Bradenton Bchs are all beautiful beaches within driving distance from USF. Too USF has a park about 2 miles from campus on the Hillsborough River which is fun to canoe–you can rent canoe for like $5. Too, if you get an annual pass for Busch Gardens you can go there to cool off on water rides once in a while.

Great, since there’s beaches around that’s a big plus for me. Housing seems very expensive though. I prefer to have my own bedroom and bathroom, but I’ll probably have to share. Lizard, do you know of any cheap apartments at USF or around? I honestly cannot stand an annoying roommate, so I’ll see how that works out.

@ lavender19- oh in that case, well goodluck!!! :)

If you’re not transferring and it’s your first year (regardless of how many credits you come in with), you are required to stay on campus and purchase a meal plan.

Unless you live around here.

For all of you who have lived on campus: is there a lot of noise? If I am going to live on campus, I’m definitely taking the apartment route because there’s no way I can share a room with anyone else/share bathrooms with a ton of random people. I prefer a quiet environment and I like my privacy. I will literally flip on anyone if they bother me/have parties in the apartments. Any input would be helpful, thanks.

The apartments on campus don’t have private bathrooms…

I was in Castor community dorm freshman year and it was surprisingly quiet there all year long; it’s not like screaming drunks are rolling beer kegs down the halls at 3 in the morning or anything like that. The bathrooms aren’t that crowded or messy either. I lived in Maple suite style dorm soph year where 4 girls shared a bath between our doubles and things were a little quieter there. One good thing about the community bath down the hall is that once in a while when you swallow a fermented possum or something and you leave the toilet you can tell others coming in the bath that somebody ahead of you sure had a problem–you can act like it wasn’t you, but somebody else! You can’t do that in bath that you only share with 3 others–they know it was you! If it is a little busy in your apartment or room with others visiting your roommates, you can go to library and study. Too, “Safe Team” will escort you back to your dorm in a golf cart late at night from library if you phone them for a lift.
