Life of a Student Athlete?

Hi all,

Although I’m lucky to be around kids who have committed to play sports in college and some who are in college now playing sports, I am still unsure of how life as a student-athlete will be like. Thankfully I committed to a college (I’m a junior) to play baseball and I wanted to know if the coursework was overwhelming or difficult compared to a student that was not playing sports. Also, I plan to go on the path of physical therapy/ exercise science or along those lines. My college coach said a number of players now are along that path as well. If it means anything, the college is a Division 1 college and is a public university. I plan to go basically two weeks after my graduation for summer workouts and classes. Furthermore, I’m a pretty good student with about a 3.6 GPA my sophomore year and likely a 4.0 this year with solid courses. I know I still have the rest of this year and next, but I wanted to know ahead of time.

Thanks for any input or personal experiences, and if I didn’t clarify enough I will provide more information.

College athletes can sometimes have a more stressful experience because of the time obligations for practice/games. However, there are plenty of other students with schedules that are just as congested. Jobs, club participation, research, internships etc. all add up to a lot of time.

The coursework is the same regardless of one being an athlete or not. The ability to manage ones time effectively is an entirely different matter from person to person.
