What are the significant differences between Reed College and UChicago? Profound differences academically, socially, city-wise, culinary, etc.....? Anything, you know!? P.S. I love swimming, philosophizing, reading, learning for the heck of it, puzzles, and mountain climbing.

Also, I came across this:
"So where did you go to school?"
"The University of Chicago."
"Sweet, me too! What fast food restaurant are you working at?"
"No, no, not the University of Illinois at Chicago. The University of Chicago. I got a degree in Economics there and now I'm making 120k a year on Wall Street."
"Oh. Would you like fries with that?"

The University of Illinois at Chicago is a fine school. While it might not be as prestigious as its neighbor to the south, its med and pharma programs are solid and the people happy.

Lol, well clearly, that’s an embellished joke. Mind addressing the main topic? I’m really curious and there seems to be no other source to my question/apparent answer…bump…

Okay, I will spice this up a little to get you some responses. :D

Reed vs UChicago

I wouldn’t call Uchicago students prestige hogs (I replied even though I saw the jk). It’s not that well-known. It’s more well-known than Reed, but still not Harvard prestige.

Uchicago used to be more self-selective, but now it’s more up to admissions, so I would have to agree Reed is more self-selective than Chicago.

Uchicago is much bigger and near the city. I would expect more resources and stuff from Chicago due to its size.

UChicago has much less of a drug culture than Reed, but the academic climate is similar. I am sure there are people who do drugs here too, but I don’t see any of it. At Reed it is rather unavoidable, or so I’ve heard.

Personal experience
Friends attending Reed

From my Resident Master (in a jocular tone): Reed is all the people who liked Chicago, but either didn’t get in or thought it was too big/urban/oppressive/etc.

hmm, i don’t know anything about reed college, but i did spend a whole summer at UChicago doing microbiology research.
Beautiful Campus.
Very diverse population of students, but the one aspect everyone shares is being a nerd in their own respect. I was surrounded with incredibly intelligent and amazing people.
People usually attribute Uchicago as being the place where “fun comes to die”…they don’t know what they’re talking about. It is a highly academic place. But there is still a LOT of room to have fun. Also, its only a subway ride away from the city :)
