lightweight crew

Can anyone on the lightweight crew team shed some light on how much of a time commitment is involved? Do you do other extracurriculars or is crew the only thing because it's such a time-suck?

It’s pretty time consuming. Usually they row M-F 5-7am (you’d have to get up around 4am since they drive us over to Jack London) and also Saturdays 8-10am. The team does conditioning (lifting, erging, etc.) in the early evenings too.

Races are SUPER fun and everyone on the team is really nice. You can also give your coxswain a lot of s**t for anything that happens out in the water =P

Note: I used to be a coxswain for crew, but I had to quit since I would only get an hour of sleep every night…(finishing psets by 2-3am haha).

Since you have experience spontaneity- is it usually only freshmen or students of all ages? had you done crew before?

There’s a fair amount of newcomers on the team–mostly freshmen, but there’s also a large amount of upperclassmen too.

The only time I did crew was when I came to Cal. We didn’t have that program at my high school.

I’m planning on joining too, about how many asians are on the team? just curious

Not many when I joined. Including me, I think there were about three or four?
