Like the Programs, Hate UK Basketball

Before you dismiss this post, let me explain. I am into the Global Scholars Program in Gatton (and I have a full ride scholarship), but, in addition to the perceived loss of prestige- very few people in the top half of my class go to public universities, I worry about Kentucky basketball. I am not one of those people who do not like colleges to have big sports. I love college basketball, but I really dislike Kentucky's team (UNC is the only basketball team I hate more than UK). Has anyone here been in a similar situation and were you able to overcome it? I feel that choosing Kentucky would ironically almost be like choosing a D3 school with no real sports, because I worry about being able to root for Kentucky in their main sport.

I’ve been a UCLA fan forever, but if UK is giving you the best offer and you choose to go there and take their scholarship money, the least you can do is support the Wildcats. Their football and basketball teams help provide a lot of university funding. Those players will be fellow students of yours so the fact that you’d be willing to hate or dislike the program and those fellow students seems kinda harsh. UCLA and Kentucky are in a race for the most titles in College Ball, but I don’t let that stop me from supporting both teams. UK has given me a huge opportunity with the Singletary Scholarship so the least we can do is support their teams which helped make our opportunities possible. If this really is a big deal for you, especially after you hinted at some “loss of prestige”, perhaps you should look elsewhere and not waste UK’s time.
