Like what is up with TAP? (NYS) ****ed..

Okay so.. I'm freaking out right now.. I mean Worried and Also angry.. I Applied for tap and this is what I got back..

* The New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC)

(TAP) and/or New York State scholarships. This e-mail is the result
of your TAP on the Web application, or Express TAP Application
(ETA).

Based on current statute and the information you supplied, HESC has
determined that you do not meet the New York State residency

WTH?? I've lived in New york City my whole Freaking life.. and I'm going to a SUNY well an Affiliation of a SUNY.. EITHER WAY ITS IN NEW YORK A NEW YORK SCHOOL. .. is this because my parents live out of state?.. I'm graduating with a Regents Diploma from a Teaching school IN NYC.. so what the heck?.. what the heck does this mean?.. they don't even have a number I can Call . to ask them WTH is going on this makes 0 sense..

Residency requirements for instate tuition are usually based on a parents state of residence. I wonder if this is the same with TAP?

That makes no freakin Sense… Then If that’s the case I don’t have a state to call my own then… Because I won’t be considered a Penn State Resident With a NYC Transcript and High Regents School Diploma they laugh at the sounds of “Regents” … and I guess I’m not a New york state Resident Either… even Though I go to a NYC School…

Who did you live with your “whole life?” Are you in custodial care?

My parents moved to Pennsylvania Last year… I Stayed back with my grandmother to finish my Schooling… Now they are moving back here…

This really Bugs me because now I don’t know what to do now…Although I was born and Raised here… Apparently According to NYS I’m from Neptune… I won’t be able to afford college If I don’t get this Grant…

Talk to the financial aid office at the SUNY school you are attending. Perhaps they can help in your particular situation.

^^I agree call the financial aid office at the school you will be attending, they may be able to help in some way or at least point you in the right direction.

I have a student in the same postion graduating in June. She has a “0” EFC, trying to get into EOP, but
can’t because she has not been cleared for TAP. Contacted the school to ask for a professional judgement or an override. It has to come from TAP who is dragging thier but. In TAP’s eyes if your parents are not residents here, you are not entitled to the money.
