likely letter and application

Our S also made a switch from RD to ED, but not on the common app. The coach told him that if he notified admissions, they could make that switch and they did. It was actually a little after the ED deadline, but before they began reviewing the ED applications.

The EA/ED deadline is also a little soft for recruited athletes: if you need to make a visit to an Ivy with an early option, and can’t make it until after Nov 1, or if you otherwise can’t quite make a decision and get everything in by that date, some Ivy coaches may offer to push your materials through the admissions meetings after Nov 1, but in time to be considered for early admission. If Nov 1 is looming, keep talking with the coaches of the programs you’re most interested in. You might discover they can find another couple of weeks for you to make a decision, if you will come visit, or keep them at or near the top of your list.

There is a spot on the Common App where the applicant indicates if the application is RD, ED or EA. He filled out three applications RD. When he had his likely letter in hand from his #1 choice, the Admissions Office sent him a form for us to sign to change the app to ED. He let the other coaches know about his decision and that was it.

Hope this helps.
