"Likely letters" and Early Decision

I know Columbia does occasionally send out "likely letters" during RD, my question is do they ever do it during ED? Is there really even a point because they give you the actual decision only about a month and a half later?

bump

I’m familiar with Yale. For early decision, Yale only uses likely letters for recruited athletes.

Some colleges use it for targeted athletes – since so many other coaches likely are vying for them. Over on the Harvard forum, one person posted a picture of her LL. she was a recruit.

Dunno about Columbia

Likely letters for EA/ED start generating 10/1. At that point, few applications are submitted other than those from recruited athletes. Columbia, like many other schools, does issue a handful of likely letters in the RD round to applicants other than recruited athletes.
