Bingo, Katydid. A voice of reason and sensitivity.

^^^ I agree with both you and Katydid (as I mentioned in my previous post)—if our kid were applying this year I think knowledge of the blog would have driven her (more) nuts. (In stead she was a successful EDI applicant last year and is loving her first year there). Fortunately, it appears that Tufts also realizes its mistake (and too “cute” was a word that came to my mind too). I would not worry one whit though about a transparent fawning of the blog affecting an applicant’s chances, especially since this is the ED round and each person has already proclaimed his/her love of the place in the most emphatic way possible.

You’ll be hearing soon so good luck.

Maybe the committee just got overenthusiastic about the process, but yes it did come off as self-indulgent and too cute. Real information–such as number of applicants for ED I and II, and the percentage of those applicants accepted in ED I and II–would be more useful to future applicants.

been a lurker, but made a login to comment on how dumb I thought the live blog was and how stressful it was to read. as an ed applicant, all it did was make me anxious. also, how is listing the snacks you ate and the songs you sung during the process lending any sort of valuable insight into this process? i would have assumed that there were lunch breaks and snacks at something like this. it gave no real insight and only seemed to shed light on how cool and hip you all are.

also, why have you not responded to any feedback? i’d really appreciate an apology or some sort of justification.

I agree with your assessment of the experiment. However, I don’t want to slam the admissions committee for its attempt. For one thing, this whole thread was started by Dan explicitly asking for feedback, and his subsequent post (#11, I think) acknowledges the shortcomings of this experiment. Also, even though it didn’t work (in most people’s opinions) I do think that it was well intentioned (just as Dan’s participation on this forum is well intentioned, is a break with common practices of college admissions offices, and is, in my opinion, a fabulous contribution to the application process for anyone scanning this board). I honestly believe that Tufts is trying to demystify the process for students.

A very nervous time for ED applicants—I remember how on edge our daughter was last year waiting to hear (which is why I said in a previous post that I think the blogging/ twittering would have made it worse for her—trying to read through the lines of what was being blogged to see what it might mean for her application). So, hang tight (and I won’t even bother telling you to try to relax), and wishing the very best news on whatever day they post their decisions.

Wow, too much information! Which is really saying something, coming from a CC parent.

I’m reading this several days after it happened, and my kid’s Tufts application hasn’t even been submitted yet, and my heart still skipped a few beats when I read that New Jersey was being discussed.

My D1 will be applying next year. I’ve just now read the committee posts, and there were definitely useful nuggets in the live blog. But they’d still be useful to her as a future applicant as a standard blog post. If she were applying this year, I’d have the same concerns mentioned upthread.

What I’m getting out of this is that I should ply you guys with cookie-laden care packages :D
