Juilliard livestreams all performances but you have to have a student account or be given permission from your student. I don’t know if this is new, but I only found out about it a short time ago. Quality is really good.
That’s interesting to know–my daughter graduated a year ago but at the time they were not livestreaming. I wish this had been the case when she was there.
I just attended a future music majors workshop at Arizona State with my son. They live stream all events from two recital halls and archive them on a youtube channel. I’m not sure if they do the same for the large ensemble concerts.
Does anyone else have any concerns about this practice? I wonder how common ASU’s practice is. Who owns thost videos - the university or the student? I certainly hope the student has the right to “opt out”.
You mean like blur the opted out student? I’m interested in what concerns you about live streaming with regards to privacy?
Streaming is not so much the concern for me, but archiving on a public Youtube channel such as ASU’s is. I have many privacy concerns with that. Fine if the student wants to post their recital, but there are many reasons why students (and professionals) do not choose to post on public access Youtube. Or, if they do post videos, they have retained control of the content and can select what the consider “post-worthy” and what they prefer left off.
I agree, Momofadult.
ASU may very well not archive everything, or allow students to opt out. No one asked about that at the event I attended. Just scrolling through what is available on their youtube channel, it doesn’t seem that there is enough archived there to be all that was performed in those halls by a school of 700 students.
