Living abroad, online classes, and applying to Universities

Hello!

I would like to ask some questions regarding the plan I have laid out for my future.

Right now I am in China, I am 16 years old studying Chinese. I plan to study the language through programs designed for foreigners through a University in Beijing. Whilst doing this, I will be taking accredited online courses through my High School back in America so that I may receive a diploma. I imagine this will take me about 2 years considering I am in my Junior year now.

I am wondering what people think about this, and how it may affect the potential I have. I really want to master the language, so I wanted to be in China. I have a desire to pursue something international. Will I have trouble getting through admissions or getting accepted into college with these credentials? How will it look compared to that of other applicants?

I would also like to know what your opinion is on the most probable to grow internationally related degree program. I have a strong will to work part/full time abroad, most specifically here in China.

Are you there with your family or on your own?

Depending on how demanding your language coursework is, it may be all but impossible for you to keep up with the online classes. You need to pay careful attention to your time, so that you can manage it well.

Lots of students who are home-schooled take online courses, so you should take a look at the home-school forum for ideas about your situation. Click on “Discussion Home” in the upper-left of this screen, and scroll down to find it.

Yes I am here alone. And my coursework isn’t that demanding, it’s about 4 hours a day during the week only. So I have a lot of time to work and do online classes around that especially on the weekends.
