Lloyd Scholars v.s Residential College?

I’m a recent freshman admit to UM, and as of right now, it’s looking like I’ll probably be attending there this fall. I applied to a few MLCs and was accepted into Lloyd Scholars and the Residential College. I want to be a part of an MLC because I’m looking to for a tight-knit community.

I’m planning on majoring in PoliSci and potentially taking up a minor in Creative Writing or English. I applied to Lloyd because music & creative writing are big parts of my life, but I like the diversity, convenience, and language seminar required of RC (Chinese fluency is a goal of mine during college).

What would be the pros and cons of either program? Has anyone lived in either of these communities that could tell me a little bit more about them?

I’ve known people in both. Both residence halls are some of the most desirable in terms of amenities. East Hall is in Central Campus while Alice Lloyd is on the Hill (still part of central, but a bit removed). The RC is a MUCH bigger commitment and seems to have its own subculture, which you may or may not vibe with.

Can anyone provide advice, comments or opinions about the living residences for a CoE student? Have had requests from MRADS and Living Arts Engine to apply. Is this common with all students or are they looking for particular students in these areas? New to college experience and want to understand any pros/cons or advantages/disadvantages of the living communities vs regular on campus housing. Any information is appreciated. Thx!
