Longer Than Four Years

Hi CC,

I was wondering if it looks bad for employers and possibly grad schools if a person took longer than four years to complete their undergrad? I’m considering doing a double major in business (accounting/finance) and information systems, but doing it will take me longer than four years to graduate. I know that this is a good reason to take longer than four years to graduate, but does this carry any negative connotations?

No, they won’t care. In fact, there’s no way they would know, unless they request your transcript (which most places don’t), or you tell them. On your resume, typically, you don’t put a range of dates attended, but rather, when you graduated.
