So,
I just finished my freshman year and started out as a chem major, which did not work out well lolol. I have taken some classes relating to cognitive science, which I would be interested in pursuing; however, my current college does not offer a cognitive science major. In terms of grades my first semester was a disaster (C’s in physics and chem), but my second semester was much better (all A 's, although I dropped one class). Currently my gpa is a 3.2, but I think I could get it up to a 3.4ish by the end of next semester (however, my gpa relating to my desired major would prob be a ~3.7-3.8). I am in a couple of clubs on campus (but not super involved), I am going to be working in a profs bio lab next semester, and I tutor kids in reading/writing/ math. In high school I was in the top 15% of my class and had a 2000 sat score. Any suggestions of safety, reach, and match schools for cognitive science that would offer decent financial aid as a transfer student? Help a jersey gal out, thanks!
The first step, since you are sure about your major choice is to look up a list of colleges with that major (on a quick search, you can turn up such a list on Wikipedia). Then you need to look at location and cost to whittle down the possible schools. Alternatively, you can probably get the same basic background with a degree in psychology plus a tailored set of electives in biology, philosophy, anthropology and computation.
Thanks! I’ve looked at some programs, and Lehigh, Case Western, umich, vassar, and Rutgers have caught my attention. But i’m not sure how competative a 3.4ish would be (considering that my 2 Cs were from my first semester in classes that prob wouldn’t be applied toward a cognitive science major).
Showing improvement in your grades is always a positive thing. Just give it a try and have a good plan B.
