Looking for a Christian, Theatre-Education College

I've recently decided to major in Theatre with a concentration in education. My goal is to teach theatre in high schools and then hopefully start my own theatre company. I would really love to attend a christian college, preferably somewhere on the east coast (I'm willing to go outside of that area, though, for a really good college). Does anyone know of any reputable, christian colleges that have my major (preferably not Liberty University)?

Wow…I am kinda an expert on this one! My daughter had thought about Theatre Education and we looked at alot of schools. Theatre Education is not the easiest to find. Some of the christian, east coast schools that we looked at were Belmont, Lipscomb and Milligan. I have been to all of these schools and would be happy to answer any questions that you may have!! Just PM me!!

Covenant College is a conservative christian school located on Lookout Mtn in the Chattanooga, Tennessee area. But it is physically located in Lookout Mtn, Georgia. They are the official college of the PCA denomination (Presbyterian Church of America).

I graduated from this school years ago and have watched their theatre program continue to grow and mature through the years. I would highly recommend you check out their podcasts about their programs and opportunities. I didn’t see a Theatre Education option, but they may be flexible about working an interdisciplinary degree for you. (They did for my husband.)

Covenant’s Education Program is highly regarded, so I encourage you to communicate with the admissions dept and the academic departments.

The focus of the entire college is to get the students off the mountain, into the city, to serve and learn. They encourage theatre students to work with the local university in Chattanooga on productions, and afterwards help them to talk through how a secular production differs from a christian production, and other lessons learned in “living life” by interacting with non-christians.

Covenant has a small, vibrant campus. Artists, poets, philosophers, musicians, geeks, nerds, athletes, they all live, laugh, and learn together. Arts festivals, music festivals, any excuse to be silly, creative, original.

Check it out. Only you can decide if it is the right “fit” for you.

Good luck!

Liberty does have a very good theater dept and education school. The new theater is top-flight and they have both professional and student theater groups.
